Send a test and run the deliverability check

Last reviewed

See the email as a lead will, and fix the problems that get email clipped, rejected or filtered before it goes out.

Both live in Compose, next to Send. A test shows you what arrives; the deliverability check inspects the email itself and lists everything known to hurt its chances, with a fix for each.

Send a test

Send a test delivers the email to your own address, or any address you type, through the connected mailbox with sample data in the merge tags. Open it on a phone and on a desktop: the preview in Compose is faithful, but nothing replaces seeing the real message in a real inbox.

What the deliverability check looks at

  • Total size: Gmail clips a message over 102 KB and hides the rest behind a "View entire message" link — including your unsubscribe link.
  • Attachments: Gmail rejects attachments over 25 MB and Outlook over 20 MB, and large attachments on bulk email hurt inbox placement even under the limit.
  • Images: their total weight, the ratio of image to text, and any image without alt text.
  • A missing plain-text version, which some filters treat as a sign of unwanted mail.
  • Spam-trigger words and ALL CAPS in the subject line.
  • Too many links, or links through URL shorteners, which filters cannot inspect.
  • A sender domain with no SPF or DMARC record, and a From address that does not match the connected mailbox.
  • The number of recipients against your mailbox provider's daily limit (Gmail 500, Google Workspace 2,000, Outlook.com 300, Zoho and others similar).

What it cannot do

No sender can see whether a message landed in a spam folder; the receiving mailbox decides that privately. The check removes the causes that are known and measurable before you send, and the Sent tab reports the failures and bounces your mailbox returns afterwards. Together they are the closest anyone can get.

The check runs in seconds, so run it again after every edit — a subject line rewritten at the last minute is exactly where a spam-trigger word slips in.
